we ate it all

On Friday, we cruised into town with our buddies, Krynn and Paul, for the food truck festival called Eat the Street. Over 40 trucks lined the parking lot, offering everything from roasted corn on the cob, korean fusion tacos, fries with every kind of dipping sauce imaginable and even malasada burgers-- yes, that would be a burger inside a doughnut. We chowed down on lots of yummy goodness and finished the night with smoothies.

Oh boy, yummy in my tummy.

So much to do this week as our movers come tomorrow, I'm working on getting my medical records switched over to Florida and all the last minute prep before the move. Right now I'm off to pack up clothes we need for the next month and start taking our pretty things off the wall. We got a lot crossed off our aloha list this weekend, and I have tons of photos to share this week.

Happy Monday!

What you don't see from this week are the piles of junk laying around the house waiting to be organized for packing, the vacant spots on the carpet where furniture has been craigs-listed, and our crazy hectic schedule that leaves barely a minute open for the next two weeks.

Also, Chris rarely makes it into any of my IG pictures because he either makes awkward faces or bans my phone from escaping my bag.... ;) But I promise he's right there, living life right alongside me.

This weekend is about to be filled with some major soaking up of Hawaii as well as lots of work in the house to get ready for the movers on Tuesday. We'll be marking off some of those things on our aloha list, spending precious time with precious friends aaaaaand going through closets, boxes and drawers in an attempt to make things manageable next week.

Oh, and we get to see Silas again today, which of course puts a big smile on this mama's face.

oh baby:: 25 weeks!

25 weeks! I feel like it was not too long ago that we were so excited about announcing our little gummy bear and now we know so much about him-- his crazy dance moves, the fact that he loves to kick mama in the bladder (haha, isn't that funny?) and his precious name.

Because of an issue with my placenta, we get to go in tomorrow to see Silas again. I'm not too worried because neither the ultrasound tech or my doctors seem worried, but I'm thankful that we get to see him again and trusting that God is growing him just the way he's supposed to be.

Oh boy, have I learned a lot about trust during this pregnancy. I've had to hand so many things over to God and trust that He knows exactly what we need, what we can handle and what will best bring Him glory. We're so excited to raise this little one and hope one day he'll make his own decision to know and follow God.

Some of my favorite moments from the weeks past have been the early morning minutes when Chris comes in to say goodbye for the day and he leans in close and prays for Silas. Hearing him pray for his physical development, for us as parents as we raise him and even his future wife is something I will forever hold close to my heart and treasure.

Another of my favorite parts of this week was my baby shower thrown by my sweet girl friends. I'm excited to show you some of the beautiful photos taken by my friend Rachel, but until then, I'll just say that Chris, Silas and I couldn't be more blessed by our dear sweet friends and I'm amazed at the way they all love him already.

As far as the physical goes, I feel pretty much the same this week as last. Pretty uncomfortable, a bit of back pain, and wondering what the third trimester will be if I'm huffing and puffing this much in the second. Hopefully the busy-ness of moving, visiting family and settling in Florida will keep my mind off the unpleasantries... maybe?

PS. Apparently my belly and boobs decided they wanted to eat my belt today. Awkward.

the aloha list.

We have very few days left in our home. Next week, movers come to haul away our household goods and we'll be left with an empty shell of a house. Then a few days of living in our empty house, some hotel living and what I imagine will be a tearful exit from the island.

Last week Chris and I made our "aloha list".

(I'm not allowed to call it a bucket list because we're not kicking the bucket, so says Chris.)

A list of things we want to do (or do again!) before we leave.

Which means that along with doctors appointments, house inspections, packing day, last minute goodbyes and errands, our last 3 weeks here are going to be crammed full. But also crammed full of really good, soaking-it-up things. So I can't complain.

Here are a few favorites from the list.

>> Before we even arrived on the island, we thought it would be fun to do a "Sun Day" where we watch the sunrise over the ocean on one side of the island and watch it set over the ocean from the other side. We're planning on doing this on Sunday.

>> We've wanted to stay at the Hale Koa resort for years, so we have reservations for a weekend coming up. I'm looking forward to pretending to be tourists and hanging out in Waikiki like youngins' (except I'll probably end up hitting the hay before 10pm like every night!)

>> I've been yearning for a beautiful, unique piece of jewelry to remind me of Hawaii. Noelani Designs are just about my favorite and every time I see her at farmer's markets or fairs, I wish I had an extra chunk of cash to get one of those pretty necklaces. Maybe one day!

>> We love food trucks and Eat the Street is a food truck festival in Honolulu with a theme every month. We already had a double date planned for it this Friday and then yesterday, I found out that the theme is bacon. I may have squealed a little bit.

Or a lot.

The rest of our list is mostly all about soaking up our favorite bits of Oahu.

Soak it up, baby.

you've got questions, i've got answers.

Hey guys! I finally finished my FAQ page that I've been working on!

Click here to check out some of my most frequently asked questions and feel free to leave a question either here in comments or on the page and I'll do my best to answer. I'm sure there are more that I can add, so I'll be tweaking it every so often!

I'm not really sure why it's not linking properly from the header above. I've gotta check with my blog designer and I'm sure we'll have that fixed in a jiffy.

PS. Don't forget to enter the sponsor giveaway here! A free blog design, or shop credit to two adorable shops could be yours!

We spent Saturday night with our buddies out on the east side of the island camping right on the water. We had gorgeous, cool weather all evening while we played croquet (I'm officially awful at it), wrangled babies, made a taco feast and indulged in a little s'more action around the fire.

We woke up to some fierce winds and rain a few times during the night and come morning, we thought our tent might blow away with us in it! The sun rose through the clouds and rain and we took that break in the storm to pack up and head out! We were planning on making a big breakfast of pancakes, eggs, sausage and bacon, but ended up heading to our favorite crepes restaurant instead.

If his kicks all night were any indication, Silas loved his second camping trip (even if it was en utero). Though I think my hips and back have won the argument that that will be our last one until he's out here hanging with us.

I'm really excited about this weekend. We're doing some beach camping tomorrow night with friends and then on Sunday, my girl friends are throwing me my first baby shower! Looking forward to soaking up some sunshine, soaking in Hawaii and celebrating Silas with sweet friends.

With only a few weekends left on the island, every second counts.

Linking up with Jeanett for InstaFriday! You should too!

oh baby:: 24 weeks!

Ok, that's a lot of pictures of the bump. But I've gotta keep my sisters back on the East Coast in the 'bump loop'. I hate that they're missing basically my whole pregnancy, but I'm super excited to see them all in just a few weeks when we visit Maryland!

We had our 24 week appointment this week and Silas is growing strong! While we were listening to his heartbeat, you could hear the whooshing sounds of him wiggling around. Kiddo likes to move. I think Chris is a bit afraid of how active this boy is going to be when he gets out here. ;)

My heartburn has been killer this week. Anything will set it off and I've even woken up in the middle of the night in pain because of it. My OB prescribed me Zantac this week and the past two days have been heavenly. I feel like a normal person again! Hallelujah for modern medicine.

Thank you, thank you for all your kind words on our little man's name (if you missed that post, check it out here!) We love it even more after sharing it with our friends and family. Still trying to figure out how to spell his nickname-- Si/Sy/Sai? As a Spanish major in college, "Si" looks like "see" to me, but it's it fits the spelling of his full name. I dunno.

Things are about to get real crazy around here as we prepare for our move. Gotta figure out switching doctors, birth classes in Florida, and those little details that go along with that. I'm excited about the birthing options open to us in Florida-- much more so than here, so that is a great blessing.

Off to get the lil' dude a second breakfast. The strawberries in the fridge are calling my name.

aloha style:: me + mimi {kelly moore bag review}

 tank:: {forever 21}
belt:: {target}
skirt:: {old navy}
sandals:: {payless}
bag:: {kelly moore, mimi style}
nail polish:: {essie, turquoise and caicos}

I told you I'd share more about my Kelly Moore Mimi bag. You might remember that I had the Posey bag in gray (I reviewed it here). Recently I ran into some issues with it (the magnets in the lining had come unglued) and requested either a repair or exchange. After I was offered an exchange, I asked if it was possible to pay the difference and get a different bag. And they agreed! So, I chose the Mimi in gray.

I love this bag for lots of reasons. It looks classic and it's so versatile. It's huge and fits so much gear! There's plenty of room for my camera, an extra lens, plus all my stuff. It even zips up with my Nalgene water bottle in it, which I carry everywhere. I'm excited to use it as a diaper bag and I know it will work perfectly. It (like all Kelly Moore bags) comes with customizable velcro dividers to organize the bag however I want. I even made a pocket for my cell phone by attaching one of the dividers to the inside wall of the bag. The faux leather is a really beautiful quality and even on my Posey bag, which I had for about 6 months, it showed no wear.

The pockets are super convenient. I use the two front zipper pockets for Tums (always with me these days!), gum, and lipstick. There's a back envelope pocket that fits an iPad (I use it for my notebook and Bible for church) and a large zippered pocket which I use for pens and other odds and ends.

I'd say the only downside is that it's a pretty heavy bag, even when I have very little in it. It comes with a messenger bag strap, which I will definitely use when I have it filled. You can find out more about the bag and see Kelly demonstrating it via video here.

In other news:: I am getting sad thinking about having just a few more weeks of outfit pictures here in Hawaii. Chris and I were talking about discovering new places to take pictures in Florida. I have a guess that it won't be as easy as walking across the street to the water though!

Don't you love the colors in this outfit? Makes me feel giddily alive when I wear such vibrant colors and breezy skirts. Are you loving the warmer weather these days??

PS. Linking up with the beautiful Lindsey of The Pleated Poppy!

his name.

We're excited to share our little guy's name with you today. It's almost nerve-wracking because it's something that we've spent a long time pondering and praying about and we hold it so close to our hearts. But you, my readers, friends and family, are such a big part of our lives and we want to share it with you!

His name is Silas Kai and we can't wait to hold him in our arms.

We knew when we cut through that blue cake that it might be a tough struggle to decide on a name. Boy names are tough! What a sacred thing a name is! He'll have it his whole life and in many ways, it will define him. We love the name we chose and here's why.

Silas is a name that we not only love the sound and feel of, but the Biblical and literal meaning are precious too.

 Silas was a man in the New Testament who was dedicated to spreading the Good News of the Gospel along side Paul and the other apostles. In one particular account in Acts, Paul and Silas were put in prison, after being beaten and treated poorly. Despite being exhausted, injured and discouraged, they began singing praises to God in the middle of the night. God used their praises as a means of rescue and testimony to those imprisoned around them and even their guard.

(You can read more about that in Acts 16:16-40)

We hope that our Silas will be the kind of boy, and eventually man, who will continue to praise and follow God through the really hard times he is sure to face. God doesn't promise us smooth sailing if we follow Him, but He promises to never leave us and I pray that He will use our Silas as a witness to others.

The name Silas also means "man of the forest" and I love that it reflects Chris' own love of the forest and all the adventures he's had there.

The name Kai reflects another love of Chris'. Kai means "ocean" in Hawaiian. The forest and the ocean are two of Chris' loves and I think it's beautiful that both are including in Silas' name. I've said it before, but I sure hope that our son will develop an adventurous spirit like his dad and will grow to love the forest and the ocean too.

We don't have Hawaiian blood, but it has most certainly settled itself in our hearts and hopefully Silas will have a chance to live here and discover it for himself one day.

Now that we are sharing his name, I find that I love it more and more each time I write it or say it. I can't wait to put a face to that name!

Just a little recap of the week.

savoring Hawaii sunshine
tax prep
pink ombre nails
my new Kelly Moore Mimi bag (more on that next week!)
downing tums like they're candy
getting dressed (sometimes)
baths, lots of them
pj time with Chris
fresh strawberries ready for the eatin'

In other news, my emotions have been going cuh-razy this week. I've been battling sadness over leaving Hawaii (in less than a month, people!), eagerness to be settled in Florida, self-esteem issues about my growing body, feelings of inadequacy at home and in the blogger world. Aaaand also there might have been one incident where I got unjustifiably mad at Chris for taking a nap and not rescuing me from a cockroach that had me cornered in the kitchen. I foresee some much needed quiet time and prayer in my day to re-calibrate for the weekend.

Perhaps a bubble bath too.

Oh, and more chocolate milk.

happy weekend!

oh baby:: 23 weeks!

Not much new to report this week. I guess I'm a bit confused because apparently the second trimester is supposed to be the easiest, but some days I swear Chris thinks I'm dying by the way I huff and puff. Getting around is just not as easy as it used to be and I'm having a hard time realizing that I can't jump up from the couch like I used to, or plop into a chair, or even bend over to pick up something on the floor. If the second trimester involves this much huffing and puffing, I can only imagine what the third will be like!

Highlights of the week are many. Several times this week, the baby has kicked Chris in what seems like a very deliberate way. One night we were watching tv and Chris' elbow was resting on my belly and the baby kicked hard right where his elbow was as if to say "Hey Dad, stop squishing me!" Moments like that fill me with amazement and I can't decide if I want to laugh or cry.

So I usually do a bit of both.

Hearing Chris have silly conversations with the little man does that to me too. I can only imagine the giant puddle of mush I'll turn into when I see him holding his little boy for the first time.

Speaking of the babe's movements-- jeez louise, he's a fiesty guy! I feel so privileged that I get to feel him all day, every day. His movements have become so much stronger now and are not just kicks, but I can actually feel as he somersaults and does laps in there. I swear sometimes I feel a leg or foot or arm slide along my belly. So crazy.

Still working on a middle name. It's been kind of sweet keeping his name to ourselves for a little while though.

I'm excited about the baby showers that some sweet friends and sisters are planning for the next few weeks/months. We're so blessed to have so many people all over the globe that love this little guy and are excited to celebrate with us!

Time is flying by. It won't be long before we're packing up and saying goodbye to our island home. Oh don't get me started on that, I might get to crying again.
